"As seen on the recent Noisey profile of the new documentary (noisey.vice.com/blog/stretch-bobbito-doc), Stretch & Bobbito's show on Columbia University's radio station played a remarkably influential role in the 90s hip-hop scene. Many artists have expressed this sentiment through songs and interviews, but none have gone quite so far as the OG Aborigines. The group's debut album Rice Krispy Treats is a tribute to the golden years of Stretch & Bobbito's time on the air, and is a testament to the long- lasting appeal of the show. With modern rhymes over vintage sounding instrumentals, Squires (the producer) and Rapswell (the MC) conjure up the feel of the best moments at WKCR. The albums 11 tracks feature neck snapping beats reminiscent of the legendary songs that were played on the station: Large Professor, DJ Premier, Buckwild, and Q-Tip all lend inspiration to these tracks, but Squires has a style of his own. Rapswell is likewise an accomplished wordsmith, and the duo adds on to the top notch material they put out this past July when they dropped the PEN PALS project on Chopped Herring Records. Rice Krispy Treats is an album that will give longtime fans of Stretch & Bobbito a nostalgic kick, and give people just learning about them a chance to catch glimpses of the 89Tec9 experience, through the various audio clips strewn throughout the LP..."

Two MC's from the South Side of Chicago, Rabiez and Sire Sensai met back in 1987 and by 1988, with a neighbourhood producer, DJ Slice, they began to lay down tracks together. They performed at local shows and high school talent shows.  Sire Sensai attended Calumet High School in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood of South Chicago and RaBieZ attended Luther South High School in Ashburn. They watched, at close hand, Common Sense and NoID come up, getting signed after puttin in a lot of hard work and local promo.  They were both alumni of Rabiez' High School, two years before Rabiez and watching them do their thing, with a wordwide audience, was an eye opener for the two local Chicago boys, as well as inspirational!! This project includes material from the first 2 vinyl from 1996 and 1997, as well as previously unheard bangers!!!!

=============

Welcome back for the final release of the cycle - some DOPE unreleased/unleaked joints from the vaults of Red Hook Projects' own Su-Preme. Here we have the 1990-1991 demos by Da Last Future and Sunz of Man MC the artist  [now known as] Hell Razah. To get some background on this project and that early 90's BK flava, read this interview with our man on the boards Su-Preme......

Where did you come up man?

Born and raised in Redhook Projects Brooklyn ,NY

How/where did you meet razah?

Razah and I both are from Redhook Projects. Razah is the younger brother of one of Redhook's greatest recording artist / Mc's Tray Bag. As a kid Razah was always around listening to Tray bag and I making music and performing in Redhooks Coffey park.

What are your earliest memories of the culture?

I been around from the beginning, at a time when there was no such thing as "HIP HOP". I heard some of the first raps and heard some of the first scratches of a record on a turntable. I'm talking about 1979 King Tim III by The Fatback Band and The Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper's Delight" That was hip hop back then and still is to now!

Who did you learn beat making from?

Back in the day there was no one to really learn from. There was these boxes that had preset drum patterns that dj's would use at the park jams; that's where the term "beat box" or "beat machine" comes from. I would get behind the ropes at the jams to see how they used the beat machine..

What was yr first gear?

Casio VLl-tone keyboard and Synsonics drums. I got an after school job when I was 14 and saved up..

When did you first make a beat?

In the late 70's I got the Casio VL-tone keyboard and started play tunes over the preset beats. I was hooked!! Then Synsonic drums came out, I got that and started making beats. Tray Bag would come over and we would make songs and preform them at the park jams.

So how did you know Tray Bag, from around the way

We both lived the Redhook but in different buildings. We met in Jr high school. Tray bag was my first MC. I kind of borrowed him from his cousin Vandy C.

Was Vandy C from the neighbourhood too?

Vandy C is from Bedstuy, Roosevelt projects. He had a studio in his room in his mom's apartment - EVERYONE'S studio was in their bedroom [back then]. He was also a very big radio personality with his "Get busy or Get Lost" Hip Hop radio show on 91.5 which throught  the 80's. He was also Razah's cousin.

How did you meet Vandy?

Tray Bag took me to meet Vandy at the Medgar Evers college radio station. Then I would go to Vandys place [in Bed Stuy] and watch him make beats. Vandy put Tray Bag on and I just learned by watching and listening.

So Vandy kinda too you under his wing?

Yeah, helped me learn the biz and what equipment to buy. I could call him and ask all kinds of questions about the music biz. Vandy is about 6 years older than me.

to be continued...

Infinite Description consisted of  Lord Cyrus, Ill Natured Natural, and Bones from Baltimore,MD. They all attended Scott's Branch Elementary,  Old Court Middle, and Milford Mill High School, so had known each other for most of their lives. The group honed their skills in the legendary Tic Toc studios owned by Jay Funk and eventually released a single "Swinging Tight B/W Nasty Ass and Hip-Hop Style" in 1994. They had enough material for a album and the plan was to self release. They put their money together and self-financed 300 copies on wax and 300 tapes through Disc Makers. The local feedback was great and the record led on to more Baltimore Hip Hop releases over the next few years, kick starting a healthy Baltimore scene. We have included the 3 tracks from the original 12" as well as 5 more unheard, unreleased KILLERS. PEEP IT!!

Ness Tee, founder, MC, writer and producer of Rukus started his career in the early days of Hip Hop music. He opened up shows for Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five back in 1980 and continued to rock the mic at concerts from Boston to Cali rolling with his boys Naughty By Nature and The Outlaws. Rukus, which was formed in 1995, also consisted of MC, Barry Pendergrass aka Focus who was the brother-in-law of Eddie Murphy's brother Vernon Lynch [who also appears on the original Rukus - Come Out 12" on background vocals]. Ness and Barry used to live on the same street in Montclair, NJ and sharing a mutual interest in the culture from way back, started to record. With some financial help from his family, Ness pressed up the 12" on his own Insignt label and it caught the attention of and was later licensed by a subsid of Casablanca records, Chocolate City Recs. Even though it was pressed twice the record is surprisingly rare. The crew still had the original reels, so when we contacted them about a deal to drop the tracks from the 12" and limited cassette version and 3 other unreleased tracks on Herring, they transfered them for us. The result is a banging EP of rare NJ flavas from 1994....

Ness Tee would like to send a strong shout out to Gran Quick [R.I.P.], DJ Disc from Jersey and DJ Paul Tee. This record is dedicated to "My Montclair, New Jersey Soldiers"....
